The province of Guanacaste covers a 10.000 km2 surface, carpeted by the enchanting dry tropical forest. The old city of Nicoya, first founded in the country, is the door to the natural treasures of this region, both its beaches and national parks. Other places like Liberia and Tamarindo show a higher degree of urban development.
Rafting, diving, snorkelling, canopy tours, windsurfing and mountain-biking are available for sport fans. Beaches, horse riding and national parks for the laid-back and nature lovers. The imposing Arenal volcano for adventurers. These options and several others are on the whole year round.
A chain of volcanoes spreads along the mpontains: Orosi, Rincón de la Vieja and Miravalles are the most outstanding. Caving is yet anothet choice in the caverns at Barra Honda and the National Park.
